Motor Vehicle Warranty
Manufacturers’ warranties will still apply to a vehicle as per their terms and conditions. You will have to go directly to the manufacturer with the claim, not Grays. The balance of a new car warranty will also apply to vehicles sold at auction.
A statutory warranty or obligation to repair may be available. Please see further information below for each state and territory.
New South Wales
A statutory dealer guarantee does not apply to motor vehicles sold by auction if a dealer’s notice (Form 11) specifying that the dealer guarantee does not apply is attached to the vehicle at the time of sale.
For motor vehicles sold otherwise than by auction, a dealer guarantee may apply for the benefit of purchasers who are not motor dealers. For further information on dealer guarantees, please refer to NSW Fair Trading’s website here
Queensland
A statutory warranty does not apply to motor vehicles sold on consignment, unless the owner of the vehicle is a motor dealer or someone who sells goods by auction (ie Grays). A statutory warranty also does not apply to purchasers who are motor dealers.

South Australia
A statutory duty to repair does not apply to motor vehicles sold by auction or negotiated immediately after the auction, provided that the seller (on whose behalf the vehicle is auctioned) is not a motor dealer. A duty to repair also does not apply to motor vehicles sold to motor dealers.

Tasmania
A statutory warranty does not apply to motor vehicles sold by auction, unless Grays owns the motor vehicle. A statutory warranty also does not apply when the purchaser is a licensed motor vehicle trader.
For motor vehicles sold otherwise than by auction, or where the motor vehicle is owned by Grays, a statutory warranty may apply. For further information on purchasing used cars in Tasmania, please refer to the Consumer, Building and Occupational Services website here.
Victoria
An obligation to repair does not apply to motor vehicles sold by auction, unless Grays owns the motor vehicle. For motor vehicles sold otherwise than by auction, or where the motor vehicle is owned by Grays, an obligation to repair may apply.
An obligation to repair does not apply at any time when the purchaser is a motor dealer.

Western Australia

A statutory obligation to repair does not apply to motorcycles sold by auction.
An obligation to repair may apply to motor vehicles, and to motorcycles sold otherwise than by auction.
